Rapper Flo Rida steals the show at the 2013 Forgiato Fest

In Events, MAGAZINE on June 20, 2013 at 8:19 pm

This shiny object is a custom Bugatti Veyron owned by rapper Flo Rida, real name Tramar Dillard. The $1.7 million car started out life in a pearlescent white hue but Flo Rida eventually got bored of this and went with a chrome finish. Clearly, just owning a Veyron wasn’t attention grabbing enough for the rapper.

But Flo Rida’s lust for shiny cars didn’t end there.

Perhaps determined to outdo the owner of this red chrome Veyron, Flo Rida recently called Florida’s Metro Wrapz and requested an even tackier flashier finish: gold chrome.

Of course, you can’t drive a gold Veyron and not have matching gold wheels, so Flo Rida also had Metro Wrapz install a set of gold-plated wheels from Forgiato.

Metro Wrapz, whose slogan is “Go Chrome or Go Home,” has also done work for numerous celebrities including Lebron James, Rashad Jones and Pitbull. Some of the company’s other creations include a Hulk-themed Lamborghini Gallardo and a fleet of cars for the Miami Dolphins football team.

Snoop Lion aka Snoop Dogg plans to invest in Pro Soccer Team

Inspired by the Celtic Champions League group-stage upset against Barcelona that made Rod Stewart cry, Snoop Dogg (now Snoop Lion) has decided that he wants to invest in the Scottish champions. Even though he didn’t really watch the match.

Said Snoop to the Daily Record:

“I got a lot of interest in soccer. It’s not a new thing for hip-hop stars to invest in sports teams, but it is a new thing for hip-hop stars to invest in soccer teams.

“I didn’t catch the whole Barcelona game, but I watched the highlights. I know Barcelona are a big deal, and it shows Celtic are a big deal as well.

“I see how passionate Celtic fans are about their team, and I could see myself making an investment if any of the board wanted to sell.

“I haven’t really thought how much. I don’t need to run a soccer club but enough of a percentage to get me on the board so I can be heard.

“I want to bring a bit of Snoop to things.

But before you start thinking Snoop is rushing into this decision, know that he was pictured wearing a Celtic shirt in 2005, and he’s already asked his friend David Beckham about the club, who confirmed that “teams don’t come much bigger,” according to Snoop. The rapper-turned-reggae act then added that one of his first orders of business as a member of the Celtic board would be to sign Beckham “for a season,” but he knows that will be difficult since the L.A. Galaxy midfielder is happy in Los Angeles with his family.

And just to prove that he knows the club and has an eye for talent, Snoop added that Georgios Samaras — yes, Georgios Samaras — is his favorite player.

“I like Samaras a lot. He looks like a proper athlete and is a pretty dangerous player. If we are to go far in Europe, he needs to play well.”

Here’s Georgios Samaras looking taken aback by that statement…

To his credit, Snoop has become a fan of the sport in recent years and he’s played a few games of FIFA 13. For his last European tour, he did a series of promotional YouTube videos wearing the shirts of clubs in various cities he stopped in, so he knows that pandering to football fans can be fruitful. But the prospect, no matter how slim, of Snoop and Rod Stewart sharing a tearful embrace at Celtic’s next historic win is an exciting one.

Unsigned Rapper Performing at Olympics

In Events, MAGAZINE on August 8, 2012 at 1:35 pm

The Olympics 2012 has been the bench mark for many an athlete, but what about music artists?… For any artist it is an honour to perform as part of what is the event of the noughties so far.

Just 25 years old, East-Ham born artist-producer Cynikal is honoured to be chosen to perform on Tuesday 7th 2012, at The Olympic Park, for four separate 30-minute sets.

Cynikal talks of his feelings towards playing at the Olympic Park on 7th August, and 5th September for the Paralympics (four gigs per date).  “It’s somewhat surreal, especially because I was born in East Ham, and I grew up just down the road in Ilford. The old East End heritage played a massive role in sculpting the capital in history, but that era has gone and a new one has arrived. I just didn’t think it would be in my lifetime.”

The talented rapper has performed at a number of renowned venues including Soho’s Ronnie Scott’s and Love Box, as well as at Camden’s historic venue, The Roundhouse on various occasions as part of events such as The Emerging Proms (2009), Turning Point Festival (2008, 2009). The Roundhouse team play a fundamental role in pushing and connecting young musicians in London, and saw obvious talent in Cynikal, putting him forward for the Olympic performances.

It certainly is something to be proud of for an unsigned young artist, “The occasion is going to be huge. Only now is it starting to sink in. I’ll be playing to an international demographic, people who may not necessarily even understand the lyrics, but almost for that reason alone I’m determined to put on a great show. Hip Hop doesn’t have this kind of opportunity often and I feel as though I have to represent it well, not to mention my family, my friends and all those who have supported me over the years.”

The Atlanta Technical College Foundation announced today that the Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream Foundation has made a generous donation in the amount of $104,000 to establish the Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream Foundation 4 for 4 Endowed Scholarship at Atlanta Technical College. The scholarship is in memory of Dr. Brenda Watts Jones, former president of Atlanta Technical College.  Dr. Jones lost her battle with breast cancer in 2007 and was the first female African American technical college president in the State of Georgia.

“We are thrilled that The Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream Foundation has chosen Atlanta Technical College as one of their scholarship institutions.  This endowed scholarship will benefit so many of our students who truly are fulfilling their dreams,” said Atlanta Technical College President Dr. Alvetta Peterman Thomas. “Billye and Hank Aaron have shown a long standing commitment to technical education and we are honored to count them as friends of the College.”

The Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream 4 for 4 Endowed Scholarship at Atlanta Technical College marks the fourteenth scholarship established by The Chasing the Dream Foundation and the first scholarship given to a technical college.  The endowed scholarship represents the latest installment in the seventeen-year-old Foundation which the Aarons started to give back to the children they believed deserved to be able to chase their dreams.

After achieving the original goal of assisting 755 children (to coincide with the number of Hank Aaron’s lifetime home runs), Major League Baseball and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America joined the Foundation’s efforts and created the “44 Forever” program (to coincide with Hank Aaron’s jersey number) which was funded by Major League Baseball and administered by the Boys and Girls Clubs to support 44 children each year, in perpetuity.  Following those initiatives, the “4 for 4 scholarship” program, was according to Billye Aaron, “a natural choice to extend our support to dream chasers new and old, as they enter the next stage of their lives.”

This scholarship reflects the desire of The Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream Foundation to encourage and reward academic achievement, in areas of study leading to public service careers as well as in other professions.  Funds at the College will be used to assist at least two students per term at Atlanta Technical College.  The first scholarships will be awarded this Fall semester.

Mr. Aaron has been a longtime supporter of the College and previously served on the Local Board of Directors.  He was a recipient of the Atlanta Technical College Foundation’s Bridge Builder Award in 2002.
