Live As One – 2012 Olympic Games Inspired Album Release

In MAGAZINE, Mixtapes on July 26, 2012 at 5:09 pm

Rise Sport Entertainment & Earl Monroe’s Reverse Spin Entertainment come together to release an album inspired by the 2012 Olympic Games.

Music is a universal thread that is shared by all cultures and has the power to impact our emotions.  This project is a tribute to the athletes from 200 countries that represent the 2012 Games in London. Just as different athletes showcase their various talents at the Olympics, this album represents 10 talented American & Caribbean artists who showcase their talents through voices that will serve as inspiration to people all over the world.

The album opens with a huge R&B anthem by singer/songwriter and former Jive recording artist, Lee Carr. It continues with Pop/R&B vocal powerhouse and Queens, New York native, TL Cross, who has worked with Musiq Soulchild, Lupe Fiasco, Diddy and Usher. It includes the commercial songwriter and music composer Butch Stewart, also known by 8 million morning radio listeners as Uncle Butchie from The Tom Joyner Morning Show. Additionally, you’ll hear the legendary “Clean Up Woman” and Grammy Award Winner, Betty Wright. From Jamaica, we have the lyrically conscious international Reggae & World music band, Rootz Underground. Also included is Harlem, New York-based soulternative rock group, The Pryce of Pearlz; West Indian top independent soul artist, Heston; DC-based R&B-Rock artist, DeJuan McCrimmon; and the songwriting & producing, hit-making family, The Ultimate Family Biz. Finally, the album ends with Curtis Hairston, a former American soul/funk vocalist, who had a number of Top 75 hit singles in the UK and US, both as a solo artist and as a featured artist in the BB&Q Band.

Rise Sport Entertainment & Reverse Spin Entertainment understand the relationship between sports and music. Like no other entities, sports and music unite the world. With this project, we plan to evoke feelings of Pride, Joy, Triumph, Celebration and Living as ONE.

US Olympian Justin Gatlin says Allyson Felix and Jeneba Tarmoh should mud wrestle for Olympic spot

In MAGAZINE on June 26, 2012 at 12:30 pm

Justin Gatlin made the U.S. Olympic team for London over the weekend by winning the 100m at the Olympic Trials. On the women’s side, the U.S. still doesn’t have a third entrant in the 100m because Allyson Felix and Jeneba Tarmoh finished in dead heat.

While Felix and Tarmoh are deciding between a run-off or a coin flip, Gatlin offered a third, sexist option: a mud/Jell-O wrestling match. (First, Gatlin said he wanted Jell-O wrestling, then switched it up to mud on Sportscenter.)

“I’m voting for Jell-O wrestling match,” Gatlin said. “Red Jell-O. That’s my favorite.”

Oh see, that’s supposed to be funny! The fact Felix and Tarmoh have worked just as hard as Gatlin to get to the Olympics as sprinters should be thrown out. Ignore their accomplishments as athletes and focus on the fact Gatlin wants to be titillated.

He said this on the same day Saudi Arabia announced they were letting women compete in the Olympics for the first time in their history and two days after Title IX’s 40th anniversary was celebrated. In Omaha, Neb., Eugene, Ore. and San Jose, Calif., female athletes are trying to become Olympians in swimming, track and field, and gymnastics.

But with a comment he said two different times, Gatlin reminded these athletes that some still see them as objects.

Thanks, SB Nation.
