Atlanta Ga – Atlanta based veteran graphic artist Kevin “mr. soul” Harp designs the custom Beats By Dre headphones for the 2012 gold winning USA Olympic basketball team along with Hip Hop veteran, Nas. From the cradle to crayons to (digital) canvas, mr. soul was born a creative artist. Drawing inspiration from the rawness and truth of Hip-Hop, illustrative genius in comic books, and the free expression of graffiti, soul chose a moniker that represents the style and aura of himself as an artist. A master of many mediums, mr. soul realized his dream of being a career artist at the top of ’95 and formed solid relationships with influential decision makers who recognized and admired his talent. From humble beginnings as a Hip-Hop loving graf artist from the home of the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame, mr. soul went from tagging walls and designing simple layouts, to creating art for major labels. During his 15-year career as a graphic artist, soul has worked on projects for artists such as the late great Pimp C, Ludacris’ Disturbing The Peace and The Dungeon Family, among several others who owe their incredible packaging to his creative genius.
In the past month mr. soul has been granted one of the biggest career opportunities to date, working with popular headphones company Beats By Dre. Since July he has designed customs for Chicago rapper Chief Keef, Hip-Hop legend Nas, the 2012 gold winning USA Olympic Basketball Team, the 1992 Dream Team, The Green Bay Packers and Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish. mr. soul’s relationship with the company was incubated by a longtime friend and client, Greg “GW” Wright, who he has been working with for over 10 years now. The customize Beats By Dre headphones are not on sale for retail but only designed and manufactured for exclusive companies, artist, and individuals.
Currently, soul works alongside Atlanta’s best tattoo artists at the City of Ink Tattoo Shop and Art Gallery. There, he serves as the gallery’s Creative Director and Art Show Curator. His most recent show, “They Reminisce Over You: We Are Troy Davis” exhibit took place November 11, 2011 at Raw Space Gallery in Atlanta’s Castleberry Hill Art District and included various artists from across the country. On a constant quest to represent important social and political issues through art, mr. soul is consistently building a body of work that will soon be respected by those who have the pleasure of laying eyes on his work.
