Witnesses told local television reporters in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. that someone fired several rounds at a Rolls-Royce carrying the rapper Rick Ross, causing the car to crash into a building.

No one was injured in the incident, which happened at about 5 a.m. on Monday on Las Olas Boulevard and 15th Avenue, the Fort Lauderdale police said. “The occupants of the vehicle have asked for their information to be withheld from being released,” a spokeswoman for the Fort Lauderdale Police, Det. DeAnna Garcia, said. “They obviously, with everything that just took place, are fearful for their lives and their families lives.”

local television station reported that an employee of the nearby Floridian restaurant and the manager of one other business had seen Mr. Ross and an unidentified woman get out of the vehicle after the crash.

The police said multiple shots were fired at the car, causing it to swerve and crash into an apartment building at 1410 East Las Olas Boulevard.

As a rapper, Mr. Ross is known for cultivating a persona as a Miami street gangster. He founded the Maybach Music Group and his most recent album, “God Forgives, I Don’t” is nominated this year for the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.

“Justice League” US Dollar Superhero Graffiti | Aslan-Sebastian Malik

In MAGAZINE on January 16, 2013 at 1:51 pm

JusticeLeaguexMoney
Comic books have long been shown to be money-making pop culture properties, so Aslan-Sebastian Malik‘s artistic decision to turn Dead Presidents into Justice League superheroes isn’t entirely without precedent.

The Berlin artist/designer went berserk on $5, $10, $20, and $100 USD bills, rendering Grant, Lincoln Franklin, and Hamilton as BatmanSupermanGreen Lantern, and Wonder Woman. Defacing legal tender in such manner is illegal, but that’s besides the point, because in this case it’s undeniably awesome.

That said, it doesn’t seem to be for sale (yet), so for now enjoy our gallery below, then head to Malik’s website to dig more of his work.

SO SO DEF TO CELEBRATE 20-YEAR LEGACY AT

AN ALL-STAR ANNIVERSARY CONCERT FEB. 23

@ THE FOX THEATER ATLANTA

Jermaine Dupri and So So Def Family Announce Anniversary Events at Press Conference Today

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and the So So Def Family point to the “real” Mayor of ATL – Jermaine Dupri

So So Def Recordings – home to platinum-selling acts such as Jermaine Dupri, Xscape, Bow Wow, Jagged Edge and Da Brat – will celebrate 20 years of hit-making music at an All-Star Anniversary Concert on February 23 at the Fox Theater, announced founder/CEO Dupri at a press conference today at City Hall.

Flanked by Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Jagged Edge, Da Brat, Kris Kross, Dem Franchize Boyz, Bonecrusher, Xscape, Dondria and veteran music executive Michael Mauldin, Dupri explained that the reunion concert will be a “rare moment in music” when various past and present So So Def artists and music contributors will come together on one stage for one night only.

“Not only is it an honor to be able to stand here 20 years after our very first release in 1993 — Xscape’s #1 single ‘Just Kickin It‘ – but it’s truly an achievement that we can bring everyone back together to celebrate over two decades of music excellence. We alsoacknowledge 1992 as the year when So So Def Productions introduced to the world Kris Kross, who had everyone JUMPING,” said Dupri.

“Atlanta has a thriving music industry, and So So Def Recordings has been an important part of that legacy for the past two decades,” said Mayor Kasim Reed. “This milestone is another example of why Atlanta is the entertainment capital of the Southeast. I am pleased that So So Def has called our great city home for 20 years, and I wish the company continued success for many more years to come.”

“As we acknowledge Jermaine Dupri’s many years of excellence in the music and entertainment business, I am so proud of him, his So So Def Recordings label and all the So So Def artists for their individual dedication, history making and record book status,” said Michael Mauldin. “So So Def Recordings will forever and a day be recognized as a prominent leader and contributor to the music and entertainment business throughout the world and we are grateful to have done so in our home city of Atlanta, Georgia. We are proud to call Atlanta the home of So So Def.”

The Anniversary Concert will be preceded by a series of events, including a private VIP dinner, a star-studded Anniversary party and a pre-concert reception. A 20-song “Best of So So Def” compilation CD is also in the works for a June release.

Concert tickets go on sale Saturday, January 19th and can be purchased online at Ticketmaster. The Concert is produced by So So Def and Mauldin Brand Atlanta and promoted by AEG Live.

Official sponsors of the So So Def 20th Anniversary are VIBE Media, Ciroc, Crown Royal, and Brand Jordan.
