Three women, all abducted over a decade ago in Cleveland, Ohio, escaped from captivity on Monday in a dramatic turn of events.
Three men have been arrested including the owner of the home that held the women who were all kidnapped when they were 14, 16, and 20 years old.
One of the women, Amanda Berry, exited the house with a little girl, believed to be her daughter and made a call to the authorities on the neighbor’s phone. Amanda was abducted when she was 16 years old. She’s now 27.
In a 911 call, Ms. Berry said:
“Help me, I am Amanda Berry. I’ve been kidnapped and I’ve been missing for 10 years. And I’m here, I’m free now.”
Amanda and the other two women, Michelle Knight and Gina DeJesus, were all taken to the hospital where they are being treated for dehydration. Gina was abducted when she was 14 years old, and Michelle was taken when she was 20 years old and is now 32. Gina’s current age was not yet confirmed.
Here’s what a FBI special agent said:
“The nightmare is over. These three young ladies have provided us with the ultimate definition of survival and perseverance.”
We’re so happy for these ladies and their families, and hopefully the men who took away a chunk of their lives will be punished swiftly for the travesties they’ve inflicted on these three innocent women.
